An absolutely beautiful day and a perfect one to get married! Willie & Jens were radiant, top to bottom!!
There was so much love throughout the day that it was contagious… one moment in the church I felt my heart so big it would’ve exploded! Family, friends, sunshine day! To end up, a great party at the Josef with – of course – the Volendammers Wensen, my favorite part of all may I say it (and not posted yet as I have so many good pics).
Willie & Jens, how amazing to see your love and to witness this great celebration! It was an honor! I wish you happiness and joy!
What to say about love… about two lovely people in love with each other? Difficult to express in words. So I will do it with photographs 😉
Laura & Henk, and the whole family! I cannot thank you enough for sharing so much with us! For letting us register such precious moments of your lives! Many times I felt really emotional and looking once more to the photos those feelings come along – there are only appreciation and a deep desire you will have a happy life together! You guys rock!
Soon I will be joining Willie & Jens again at their big Wedding day!
It is a blessing to witness the love between them, the warmth, that sparkle, that wonder! Beautiful forms love can take! Our engagement shoot was just great, and promises a great wedding shoot (cannot wait now 😉
I am enjoying a lot the negative space used in some photos for quite a while… It feels like the love between two people is just the beginning of a whole new world, above our heads, limitless…
Willie & Jens, you guys rock!! Many kisses and we see each other soon!
WARNING! You might fall in love in the next few seconds!
I met Rose & Jeroen a few days ago for our Engagement Shoot, which is a free session included in my Wedding Packages. Those photos can be used as wedding decor or even for the wedding invitation itself.
We visit some locations and I was melting behind the camera! It is a beautiful job to photograph people’s interaction and happiness, their appreciation for each other; love overflows through the camera and the result cannot be different!
Rose & Jeroen, you guys rock!!!!! I cannot wait now! Many kisses and we see each other soon!
Alex and Fanny are those people you just fall in love with at first, happy and truthful. Maybe I should start this post by saying it was hard to dry my tears when Alex started his vows during the ceremony. Tears that never end… And Fanny, how can a woman be more lovable? It just impossible, its love that overflows through her – seriously! Once contagious laugh!
It was a beautiful celebration, from preparation to the end! A beautiful ceremony was done by Liliane Spijker at the Paard van Marken! One gorgeous location! We enjoyed it tremendously, as Kel Bakker came also with me and made beautiful photos!
One emotional day to never forget! Fanny & Alex, I wish you happiness and health in this journey! Once again thanks for the trust in my work, and we see each other around!

My mother died when I was 17. My father raised me and my sister Herica, whom was then 13. My father died 2 years ago. ** Post from October 2016 **
Naldo Navajas was a painter and started his career in the 70’s. After a long distance relation with my mother, he decided to move to Ouro Preto – a historical city in Minas Gerais, Brazil. There, he started from zero, opened a gallery and lived by his art.
My father was a great man. Brave, talented and with a strong personality. My father was really black or white, stood up for his believes – made some enemies in his path, helped people either with words, prayers, medicine, love, clothes, food, took care of homeless dogs… There was always coffee and kind words at his house.
My father was a spiritualist and believed we came here with a purpose. He believed we were all connected and we should all do good to each other. My father was comprehensive and kind, but also very perfectionist, inpatient and extremely hardheaded. An inventor, a wise and visionary man.
I remember many times that we crossed some children during Christmas, and the little ones said “Santa Claus, Santa Claus!!” due to his white long hair… Once there was this conversation between two kids:
– Look, look: God! (referring to my dad)
– No, that is not God, that’s “Jesus”: my mom has a picture of him at home!
There are many funny stories…. and sad ones.
My father was not materialistic. At the end of his life, he lived in the most simple house ever, close to his memories, to his LPs (which he still used), his dogs, his tools. He would never say no to someone in need. He taught me to be kind even to the unkind. He gave me wings to believe in myself, to pursue, to get up when I would fall, to fight for what is right, to pray for those who – by any reason – speak bad against me. To be myself no matter what.
My father was a great artist. He created beautiful paintings to express himself and the way he saw the world. Impressionist, with an amazing composition, understand of colours, seasons, anatomy and light.
My father would not enter someone’s house, if he didn’t feel like he shouldn’t. Spiritual stuff I never dare to understand. He believed in the teachings of Allan Kardec, believed in reincarnation – and we certainly had our disagreements. One thing was always clear, I’ve learned how to be positive with him, to expect the best from people and situations, to raise above (sorry the bad language) all the stupid bullshit and mediocrity.
Before he died, he was still driving his old green Opala Chevrolet 1971. He remained painting till his last day. In our last Skype conversation, we talked about everything, from Joaquim to photography. He complimented me about some photos, criticised too, laughed and was there for me.
The saddest day of my life it was…
Comforting only to have relates close by. At his funeral I’ve seen known rich people from our town, but I was really touched to see those “underdogs” to the society, a tear and a word of gratitude…. “your father changed my life”…
If I ever made anyone happy in this life, if I am a good person today, If I laugh, if I am positive and enthusiastic, I own it to my father. A hero, who did transcend his time with love and care for others. Someone who allowed me to grow, who believed in me, nurtured me and and pushed me to my limits, to pursue my dreams even if they looked hard and impossible, even if I had to leave my homeland and fatefully leave him as well.
To those who lost someone they loved, a kiss and strong hug.
It is vicious and I said and I will keep on saying it… the wedding experience is something magical, excited, nervous, unpredictable and yet adorable and absolutely magnificent in all the aspects.
At springtime of their lives, Shanna en Sonny engaged to live together. I can image their feelings since the beginning, something like “let’s celebrate in the best way possible”. Maybe, in reality, it was not like that but certainly, the day had this atmosphere from begging to end.
Dear Shanna and Sonny! I would like to drop only feel words, which actually scape me at this moment… I was overwhelmed as always with feelings of gratitude and happiness, for the opportunity to photograph your amazing wedding and contemplate your happiness among your loved ones. I had a great time and looking at the photos was just difficult enough to hold the emotions. I hope you may be transported back again to this day as you look into the pictures. Keep on sharing your love with others and I wish you all the happiness and love in this world. Life will be a party everywhere you go! For the colors, the angles, the party, the amazing family you have and friends, I say THANK YOU!
Sometimes it is hard to describe what one feels during a wedding… I try to explain in one word: vicious. You can never have enough of it!
Difficult as well is to register the day and tell a story with images. Describe love, partnership, union, friendship, family bonds without being involved and let some tears in the way.
Indeed it was an amazing day among these two beautiful people together with their family and caring friends. From the preparation as we arrived, Annet’s parents were busy decorating their house, car and later on, Annet’s friends came by also to help. Love and care!
As the preparation went by there were moments of silence were I also stop and contemplate. Annet’s mother watched from far away her daughter and grandchild – and it was beautiful just to capture it! My dearest friend Maria went to see Iwan and register his preparation. When we went to the photoshoot and we had time to talk, I curiously checked out the photos and cried out my emotions! How amazing!!!
Long ago Annet told me of her appreciation for architectural photos and in our photoshoot we had a bless with so much space to “play” within all geometric forms! Not only that – to see two people in love and entangled! Uncompromised smiles, a sort of intimacy you dream about it and appreciate to witness!
Annet and Iwan! What a honour to be part of this day in your lives! How amazing to just be there and celebrate with you! Many times my eyes were blurred by tears, to watch you, your family… when I saw your friends at the end of the ceremony distributing the bubble bottles! Love and care everywhere and in little details! I wish you to keep on sharing your happiness with your loved ones! The world is a happier place with you!
Many thanks to Maria Formigos for the beautiful work, your family and friends and the lovely employees of the Edam’s Fort.
I still remember when Berry and Sylvia came by to talk about their wedding, their planes and of course the wedding reportage. Two young people, happy and engaged to make a memorable day.
Indeed it was! The day started early and Sylvia looked ready to rock. Sylvia’s mother Huib offered me something to drink and as she saw me taking photos of details, she pointed out some other ones, those sorts of details only perceived by mothers. They know EVERYTHING and all the little particular things, reading your mind! They always offer you that other perspective, a certain look filled with love. So do children!
Sylvia’s little niece Lisa was a sweetheart. I can imagine what comes to a child’s mind at that moment, their shining eyes perplexed by the white dress. This wonder, this excitement of the first time!! Magical, priceless. Sylvia asked Lisa to show me the dress – I would even dare to say that Sylvia “created” this photo, just like she knew what it was about to happen.
I’ve seen similar photos. The charm here lays in the fact of being there – to experience wonder in its pure form!! How amazing! Life is made by little moments where we are blessed to be merely spectators.
Inside the dress…
It was time to photograph Berry. When I arrived to his parent’s house and introduced myself to his mother Lia, she told me “Berry does not want to wear the tie”!! Have I said mother’s know EVERYTHING? Yes, they do!
At that point, I haven’t even thought of what to say something or when. Funny enough and very appropriated, when shooting the suit, he mentioned to remove the tie from the composition.
Probably I said “Berryyyyyy” very loud and emphatic, dramatic Helen on her solo act – which seemed to work… I am Brazilian after all, just realize my over-the-top reactions after some days 😉 but please believe me that they are all full of love and appreciation!
I love this one too…
There he comes! The first look of the bride and groom … then time to go!
Wasn’t she stunning?
The wedding ceremony would take place at the Lighthouse in Marken; together with family and close friends we departure from Volendam on board the Vriendschap.
Surrounded by stunning views of the water, we were blessed by an amazing blue sky above us!
Liliane Spijker conducted the ceremony, in a very spontaneous and lovely way. An intimate wedding ceremony. It was also very emotional as Sylvia’s father was no longer with us…
I don’t understand why things happen the way they happen… Maybe all I can say is that he was very proud to see his daughter happy and beautiful and to see them both, Berry and Sylvia, engaging in a life together.
There was something unexplainable in the air, as we move from one place to another, the rain seamed to run away from us wherever we were. After all, I feel that her father Kleine Jan was with us all along, blessing us through the day and giving us the perfect conditions for beautiful photographs!
